Beauty

Box 1

By Sheela Sheth

Ever heard of a beauty memory box? In it, you can save your hard-earned beauty tips and pass them on to the next generation to treasure. I treasure every tip I ever got from my grandmother and my mama over the years.

When I was growing up, using store-bought creams and lotions was not part of a woman’s beauty regime. We simply used a few concoctions made of natural ingredients, usually straight from the kitchen. From face masks and moisturisers to hair conditioners, if you can name it, we made it! Try out some of these natural, home-made beauty recipes and save yourself a bundle.

Egg yolk acne treatment
To treat acne, try simple egg yolk. Separate the yolk from the white, saving the white for another beauty treatment, and whip up the yolk until it is light and fluffy. Then, use a cotton ball or make-up sponge to apply the mixture to any affected areas. Allow the treatment to dry thoroughly and rinse away with cool water. You will see the difference after few applications.

Egg white skin moisturizer
Whip up an egg white until very stiff and add just a drop or two of olive oil, vitamin E or glycerine. Apply the mixture with a cotton ball or make-up sponge. Let it sit on the skin for 15 to 30 minutes before rinsing with cool water.

Egg & lemon dandruff hair treatment
Mix a few drops of lemon juice with one egg, beating the mixture until it becomes frothy. Then, pour the mixture into a squeeze bottle and apply all over your scalp. Work it through thoroughly with your fingers or a comb and cover hair with a plastic shower cap for 15 to 45 minutes. Shampoo, condition and rinse for flake-free hair.
